What we can and cannot recover
We cannot recover your records. Sight Glass has no server and holds no copy of your book — that is the whole design. If the app is uninstalled, the device is lost, or Clear all data is confirmed, the records are gone and there is nothing on our side to restore from.
So back up regularly. Record → Full backup (JSON) writes a file into the app’s own folder and lists it there; send a copy to yourself and keep it somewhere you trust. The same screen restores from any backup on the device, or from one you paste back in.
Common questions
How is the leak rate worked out?
Everything added to a system in the last 365 days, divided by that system’s own full charge. It is recomputed from the entries every time the app opens, never stored, so it cannot drift away from the record it came from.
Why did a clock appear that I did not create?
Because an addition pushed the trailing rate past the threshold for that appliance class. Sight Glass opens the repair deadline automatically, then the initial verification once you log the repair, then the follow-up once the initial one passes. A passing follow-up closes the cycle.
My rate is over the threshold but no repair clock is open.
The cycle has already been closed by a passing follow-up test, or the additions that caused the trip have aged out of the 365-day window. The rate on the card is still what the record says; there is simply nothing outstanding against it.
Where do the thresholds and windows come from?
A rule profile you choose in Settings. Two presets ship with the app, and Custom lets you set the threshold, repair window, both verification windows and both inspection intervals for every appliance class. Nothing is hard-wired, because these numbers differ between jurisdictions and between contracts.
Do I have to weigh the cylinder?
No, but it is the honest figure. The weigh flow takes the gross weight before and after and works out what actually moved. If you already know the amount, the same flow has an Enter the amount directly escape.
What is Reconcile telling me?
The difference between what the scale reads and what the book expects the cylinder to hold. A negative variance means refrigerant left that cylinder without an entry behind it — usually a charge somebody forgot to log.
Can I switch between pounds and kilograms?
Any time, in Settings. Weights are stored once and converted only for display, so switching units never changes a figure you already recorded.
Does it work with no signal?
Yes, entirely. The single exception is Settings → Privacy policy, which loads this site’s policy page in a web view and shows a retry button when it cannot. Every other screen works in a basement.
